Vestard Shimkus, nacido en Letonia, pianista y compositor de trayectoria internacional, ha sido galardonado con el Primer Premio en varios concursos de prestigio, como el Premio María canals en 2009, el Bad Kissinger en 2007 y otros. Es uno de los más destacados pianistas de su generación, como lo clasificó la revista alemana Piano News. Ha participado en conciertos con la BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, la Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, la Kremerata Báltica, La Orquesta Sinfónica de Hamburgo, el Cuarteto Borodin, con actuaciones en prestigiosas salas como el Konzerthaus de Viena, la Ópera de Tokio, El Radio France Hall en París, el Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, el Palau de la Música en Barcelona y el Oriental Art Centre de Shanghai, entre otros. Se ha formado en el Conservatorio de Riga, y ha estudiado con los maestros Dimitri Bashkirov y Claudio Martinez Mahner en Madrid, Daniel Pollack en Los Angeles y Vadim Sucharov en Munich. Estudió composición con Peteris Vasks. Forma parte de grandes festivales europeos como el Scleswig-Holstein, el Rheingau Festival, Bad Kissinger Sommer Festival, el Festival de Bergen en Noruega y el Gidon Kremer en Lockenhaus, Austria, entre otros. En 2009 fue distinguido con la White Star Order de Estonia y la Golden Order de Polonia, por su contribución a la serie de conciertos dedicados al 200º aniversario de nacimiento de F. Chopin. Sus composiciones se publican en la Editorial Schott. Ha grabado ocho CDs con importantes discográficas.

Latvian-born international pianist and composer Vestard Shimkus ia a First Prize Winner of one of the most prestigious international piano competitions, Maria Canals of Barcelona in 2009, as well as a First Prize Winner of Bad Kissingen Piano Olympiade in 2007. He began to gain an international recognition after performances with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Baltic Kremerata, Borodin Quartet, in such concert halls as Konzerthaus in Vienna, Tokyo Opera City, Radio France in Paris, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Palau de la Música in Barcelona and Oriental Art Centre in Shanghai, among others.
Shimkus began piano studies in Riga and he studied with Dmitri Bashkirov and Claudio Martinez Mahner in Madrid, Daniel Pollack in Los Angeles, Vadim Suchanov in Munich and also studied composition under Peteris Vasks.
He gives concerts in Europe, USA, Middle-East, China and Japan. He is invited to most important european festivals in Germany, Norway and Austria. He has received numerous awards, including the Lotto-Fördpreis of Rheingau Musik Festival in 2014, the White Star order of Estonia and the Golden Order of Poland for an outstanding contribution to the concert series dedicated to the 200º anniversary of the birth of F. Chopin.
Shimkus compositions are published by Editorial Schott. Ha also has released eight CDs.
